The Expert Care Experience: Role of Oral Health Professionals in Caring for People with Parkinson's

Someone with Parkinson's disease (PD) will sit in your office chair.

Learn from oral health professional team members including a dentist geriatrician, dental hygienist, speech-language pathologist and endodontist with Parkinson's about the unique oral health needs of people with Parkinson's and how to address them.

Learners will test their skills through branch logic and acquire shared decision-making tools in this course.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the unique needs of people with Parkinson’s disease when accessing oral health care.
  • Discuss ways to address oral health challenges commonly experienced by people with Parkinson’s and utilize tools to guide modifications for care.
  • Recognize the role of the oral health team within the interprofessional care team for people with Parkinson’s.
  • Discuss the impact of PD-specific medication on oral health treatments and the impact of oral health medications on people with PD.
