Denise Kornegay, MSW
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Ms. Kornegay received her undergraduate training at Carson Newman College, majoring in Psychology and Human Services with a Minor in Business Administration. Ms. Kornegay graduated from the University of Georgia with a Masters of Social Work with emphasis in administration, planning, and community organization. Currently, Ms. Kornegay holds faculty appointments at the Medical College of Georgia and the Mercer University School of Medicine. Her appointments include serving as the Associate Dean for AHEC at MCG and as the Executive Director of the Georgia Statewide AHEC Network. Professional appointments held by Ms. Kornegay include service on the six regional AHEC Boards of Directors; the State Advisory Council on Rural Health; the Admissions Committee of the Medical College of Georgia, etc. Ms. Kornegay has chaired numerous task forces for the Georgia Department of Human Resources including Partnership Development, Perinatal Substance Abuse and a member of the task force for Primary Care. Ms. Kornegay has been an active leader in the Georgia Rural Health Association. Ms. Kornegay has chaired the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges Medical School Accreditation Committee at Mercer University and has served on the National Committee for Academic Health Centers and Area Health Education Centers. Ms. Kornegay has been named Social Worker of the Year by the Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. An alumni of Leadership Georgia and named by Macon Telegraph’s as one of twenty future leaders of Middle Georgia, Ms. Kornegay is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
