How to Help My Patient Change Their Behavior: Motivational Interviewing Skills for Clinicians
Motivational interviewing is a counseling style used to help people change their behavior.
This presentation provides clinicians with an introduction to motivational interviewing and the skills needed to utilize this style of conversation in their practice. Role play with a movement disorders specialist provides an opportunity to hear feedback from a clinician on the use of motivational interviewing skills.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:
- Describe motivational interviewing and motivational interviewing spirit;
- Discuss the concepts of importance and confidence in relation to behavior change; and
- Incorporate open-ended questions and reflective listening into patient-provider interactions.
