Professional Ed Talks: Motivational Interviewing

Professional Ed Talks: Motivational Interviewing are designed to equip health professionals with information related to motivational interviewing spirit, the fundamental processes and communication skills associated with motivational interviewing, and the elements of change talk. Key components of these videos include role playing exercises and discussions that provide insight into the perspective of a clinician and a person with Parkinson's with respect to motivational interviewing in practice.

  1. Describe the elements of motivational interviewing spirit through which health professionals can guide persons with PD in their change efforts. 
  2. Identify the five communication skills associated with motivational interviewing. 
  3. Integrate evocative questions, affirmations, and reflective listening during patient-provider interactions. 
  4. Evaluate the use of motivational interviewing to elicit health-related behavior change from a patient's perspective.
